Emily Anne Morgan - President

Emily Anne Morgan is a Junior at Auburn University majoring in Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences with plans to become a pediatric speech-language pathologist. In addition to her volunteerism for the Lee County Literacy Council Junior Board, she is the co-volunteer coordinator for Auburn University’s Reading for Impact Club, a member of Auburn University’s NSSLHS Club, and the co-chairman of the Crenshaw County Distinguished Young Women Scholarship Program. Along with being a full-time student, she currently teaches dance at Variations Studio in Auburn and works as a Tigers Unlimited ambassador. Prior to attending Auburn University, she was Lurleen B. Wallace Community College’s SGA President, Phi Theta Kappa President, and Compass Club Vice President. Emily Anne is a passionate advocate for literacy and for empowering young women to reach their full potential.

Erin Mitchell - Vice President

Erin Mitchell is a student at Auburn University majoring in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences, with minors in Business, Music Business, and Human Development and Family Science. She is actively involved across campus, serving as a WINGS peer mentor and a College of Liberal Arts Ambassador, where she helps foster connection and engagement among students.

 

Erin is also a member of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association and the American Sign Language Club, reflecting her passion for communication, accessibility, and supporting others. In addition, she serves as Vice President of Philanthropy for Alpha Gamma Delta, where she leads efforts to plan events and raise awareness and support for meaningful causes.

 

Originally from Montgomery, Alabama, Erin is deeply committed to service and leadership. As Vice President of the Junior Board for the Lee County Literacy Coalition, she is passionate about promoting literacy and connecting individuals with resources that empower them to grow and succeed. Erin strives to make a lasting impact by encouraging others and creating opportunities for people to feel supported and inspired

Katie Hill - Treasurer

Katie Hill is a junior at Auburn University majoring in speech language hearing sciences and minoring in Spanish. Katie is from Madison, Alabama and is now serving as the treasurer for the Lee County Literacy Coalition junior executive board. Katie works as a Peer Tutor for Auburn University and has been a WINGS mentor for the EAGLES program for going on four semesters. She is also an active member of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association, Reading for Impact and the Spanish Club. She plans to get her Masters degree in speech language hearing sciences and pursue a career in speech language pathology.

Abby Horton - Secretary

Abby Horton is a freshman at Auburn University studying Biomedical Sciences on the Pre-Physician Assistant track and is originally from Alpharetta, Georgia. She currently serves as the Secretary for Reading for Impact, an organization dedicated to supporting and promoting literacy in the Lee County community. Through service projects and partnership with the Lee County Literacy Coalition, Reading for Impact helps provide resources needed to improve literacy and educational opportunity. Abby is passionate about serving her community and joined the LCLC Junior Board to contribute to the efforts that increase opportunities for those who are underrepresented in the community. As she is devoted to a future in healthcare, Abby particularly believes in the essential role literacy provides in improving the health of individuals and the wellbeing of our communities. She looks forward to serving the Junior Board and is committed to spreading the power of literacy.

Brentlei Barnett - Advisor

Brentlei Barnett is a senior at Auburn University majoring in Biomedical Sciences with a minor in Public Health, on the pre-dental track. Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, Brentlei has been deeply involved in literacy advocacy since her freshman year of college, when she began volunteering with the Lee County Literacy Coalition (LCLC). Through this work, she developed a passion for empowering individuals through literacy and witnessed firsthand the impact it has on confidence, independence, and opportunity.

 

Motivated to expand this impact, Brentlei founded Auburn University’s first literacy-focused student organization, Reading for Impact, where she served as President. Through its partnership with LCLC, the organization has connected Auburn students with meaningful service opportunities that support literacy initiatives across the Lee County community. Building on this work, Brentlei was later tasked with establishing the LCLC Junior Board and now serves as its Advisor, guiding a new generation of student leaders.

 

Brentlei is passionate about increasing access to literacy resources and creating sustainable pathways for student involvement in community service. She views the Junior Board as an opportunity to broaden outreach, engage diverse populations, and continue strengthening the connection between Auburn University and the Lee County community.

Anna Bishop - Event Planning Committee

Anna Bishop is a senior at Auburn University majoring in speech, language, and hearing sciences with a minor in English literature. She is from Brewton, Alabama and is involved on Auburn’s campus. Anna has served as Director of Programming for the High School Leadership Conference at Auburn University and is a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma and the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association.

Lauren Edwards - Event Planning Committee

Lauren Edwards, originally from Arlington, VA, is currently a sophomore at Auburn majoring in Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences as well as Spanish. Currently, she is serving on the event planning committee for the junior board. Lauren joined the junior board of the LCLC in order to extend her involvement to the greater Lee county community, beyond the bounds of Auburn’s campus. In her free time, Lauren works as a lifeguard at the AU campus rec, and loves to exercise and spend time outdoors.

 

Emma Sides - Event Planning Committee

Emma Sides is a sophomore at Auburn University from Troy, Alabama. She is pursuing a degree in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences with a minor in Special Education. Emma is involved in various organizations at Auburn, including WINGs Peer Mentors, Best Buddies, the Miracle League of East Alabama, and the National Student Speech, Language, and Hearing Association. She is also an active member in her sorority, Alpha Chi Omega.

 

Through her involvement, Emma has developed a strong sense of community and a commitment to service. She is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of literacy and expanding access to literacy opportunities for individuals in her community. Emma hopes to make a meaningful impact by supporting literacy initiatives, increasing awareness, and helping provide resources that open doors for others to learn and succeed.

Natalie Tedesco - Event Planning Committee

Natalie Tedesco is a sophomore transfer student at Auburn University majoring in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences. She is originally from Huntsville, Alabama, and previously attended Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama, where she was actively involved both academically and socially. During her time there, Natalie served as Sisterhood Chair for her sorority, organizing events that fostered meaningful connections and strengthened sisterhood. She also held the role of Panhellenic Vice President of Community Service, where she led and coordinated philanthropic initiatives that encouraged campus-wide engagement. In addition, she competed as a Division III college tennis player, demonstrating strong discipline, teamwork, and commitment.

 

Now at Auburn, Natalie is a member of Phi Mu sorority, an organization dedicated to supporting Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Through Phi Mu, she is passionate about giving back and contributing to causes that make a meaningful impact on children and families. She is also involved in the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association and Reading for Impact, where she continues to grow her passion for communication sciences and literacy.

 

Natalie’s passion for literacy is deeply personal. As a child, she faced challenges with reading, which shaped her understanding of how impactful support and encouragement can be. Those experiences have inspired her to help others who may be facing similar struggles. She is especially excited to promote literacy, empower individuals to build confidence in their communication skills, and make a lasting difference in her community through education and service.

Brylee Hill - Event Planning Committee

Brylee Hill is a junior at Auburn University, where she is pursuing a degree in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences. She is also minoring in Human Development and Family Sciences and Sports Coaching, reflecting her passion for supporting individuals across the lifespan through communication and development.

 

Originally from Scottsboro, Alabama, Brylee is an active member of Phi Mu, where she previously served as the Intramural Chair. She is currently a member of the Lee County Literacy Coalition’s Events Planning Committee, where she helps organize and support initiatives that promote literacy and community engagement.

 

Brylee is expected to graduate in May 2027 and plans to pursue a master’s degree in speech-language pathology. She is committed to making a meaningful impact by supporting literacy development and promoting effective communication within her community.

Mary Swelyn Nicholas - Outreach Committee

Mary Selwyn Nichols is from Dothan, Alabama, and currently attends Auburn University. She is working toward her degree in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences while staying actively involved on campus and in her community. At Auburn, Mary Selwyn is a proud member of Kappa Delta Sorority, where she has had the opportunity to build meaningful friendships, serve others, and participate in philanthropy and service opportunities. She also serves as a New Member Chaplain and Post Initiation Enrichment Chairman within Kappa Delta. 

Mary Selwyn is especially passionate about literacy and reading, which is why she is looking forward to serving the LCLC as a part of the Outreach Committee. She values the way reading can open doors, strengthen communication, and create deeper connections within a community. Because of this, she hopes to encourage others to develop a love for reading and to recognize the impact literacy can have on academic success and personal growth. Through her experiences, Mary Selwyn has developed a strong appreciation for leadership, service, and the importance of supporting others. She hopes that by promoting literacy and encouraging involvement in the community, people can build stronger relationships and create a more positive environment for everyone.

Gracie Streelman - Outreach Committee

Gracie Streelman is originally from Chelsea, Alabama, and a student at Auburn University pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences with a minor in Human Development and Family Sciences. She is expected to graduate in 2027 and plans to continue her education by pursuing a Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.), with the goal of specializing in pediatric audiology.

 

At Auburn University, Gracie is actively involved in both leadership and academic support roles. She has served as a First Year Experience Head Orientation Counselor, where she enjoyed helping new students feel welcomed, confident, and excited about beginning their college journey. She is also a member of the National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association (NSSLHA) and works as a peer tutor, supporting fellow students in their academic success.

 

Outside of the classroom, Gracie enjoys giving back to her community and spending time volunteering at a local humane society. Additionally, she loves all things music, traveling, and people-related. Her passion for service, education, and advocacy fuels her desire to make a meaningful impact in the greater Auburn-Opelika area. Through her future career, she hopes to provide compassionate care and support to children and families navigating hearing loss and specific communication needs.

Christian Congleton - Outreach Committee

Christian Congleton is from Hoover, Alabama, and attends Auburn University. She is currently a Sophomore working towards getting her degree in Speech Language and Hearing Sciences. So far at her time in Auburn, she has been involved in Alpha Delta Pi sorority, raising money toward Ronald McDonald House Charities. Christian is on the Auburn Diamond Doll team as well, where she serves as an official host for the Auburn Baseball team. She also spends her time working at Moores Mill Childcare, watching children any age from 4 months - 10 years olds.

 

Christian is really passionate about speech and hearing, and has been around children with disabilities involving speech and hearing practically her whole life. Her mother is a special education teacher, so she has always grown up going to her classroom to volunteer when she can. Growing up around this environment has really inspired her to get involved in her community and advocate for those who may not be able to for themselves. Christian hopes that by promoting literacy, people will begin to build stronger connections with their communities and improve in their education.
